Motorized Window Treatments – Making Life Easier
Motorized window treatments are basically the electronically controlled window treatments. Most of them have remote controls that you can use to manage them as you like. Others have an ordinary switch that can be turned off and on for different preferences. There are some more sophisticated motorized window treatments that have software that can be automated to carry out different tasks like opening or closing the blinds after a certain period of time or with change of weather. Darkness detectors close up the blinds when light decreases or darkness appears. These blinds use the ordinary batteries for their operation. These can be replaced when they run out. Some have provision for connection to the main electricity supply.
Motorized window treatments make life quite easy as they require very little effort to operate. They can be used on most windows including sliding glass door window treatments. They are particularly helpful to very old people or those are sickly and therefore need little movement. Motorized window blinds apart from making a house neat and attractive have a couple of other roles that they play. They control the amount of light and sunshine entering the house. Excess sunshine falling directly on carpets and furniture can damage them. They also provide privacy and protection from intrusion.
With the current technological advancements, motorized window treatments are now embedded with alarm systems and other security mechanisms. For instance some have burglary detectors which trigger the security alarm in case of an illegal entry attempt. Others are fitted with timers that are configured to close the blinds at a certain time of the day and open them later even when you are away. When you set out to purchase motorized window treatments, there are a few things that you must consider below.
How will you power your shades? If you will use the electricity in the house, you need special connections and connectors for the blinds. This means a bit of cabling and power tapping will have to be done by an expert. If you have no electricity, you should be prepared to spend on batteries.
The function of the blinds is also a vital consideration. If for instance you want shades that allow light passage, you should go for the transparent or light colored ones. If you want total blackout, the opaque ones are the best.
Since these are controlled electronically, do you want a manual control system or an automated one? For instance you may want when curtains on one side fall, the others on the opposite side to rise. Or do you want timers that close and open the blinds at a preset time? These are special controls which may involve spending on a few other gadgets and software. When it comes to fixing the shades, an expert will be better placed to advice on where the control buttons should be fitted. Some have a central button while others have different ones located at various points in the house.
Other factors are cost and size. The motorized blinds cost differently depending on the type and size. When buying these, make sure you have taken your window measurements so that you get right size motorized window treatments.
